Veridian cautioning customers on door-to-door canvassing

Ajax, ON –Veridian Connections is cautioning its customers to be aware of an individual claiming to be a representative of the electric utility and requesting access to their smart meter.

Customers of the utility in Clarington, Gravenhurst and Pickering have reported that an individual claiming to be a representative from Veridian visited their residences last week, and requested access to their smart meter to conduct a “hydro check” or “smart meter check”. Veridian does not have staff carrying out this type of door-to-door canvassing. None of these reported customer visits were in any way associated with Veridian.

Veridian would like to remind customers that it’s important to know who they’re dealing with if a salesperson knocks on their door. Customers should ask for proper identification such as a business card or ID badge, and assure themselves that they know who they are dealing with before providing access to their homes. Suspicious activity should be reported immediately to the police.
