Veridian crews working to restore power to remaining 500 customers in Gravenhurst
Ajax, ON – Electricity service has been restored to more than 5,600 Veridian customers in the Town of Gravenhurst as the utility’s emergency crews, with assistance from Whitby Hydro, K-Line Group and contractor staff, continue power restoration work following last Friday’s severe thunderstorm.
Approximately 500 customers in outlying areas continue to be affected, and will likely remain without power until the weekend. Friday’s storm initially resulted in the loss of electricity to all of Veridian’s 6,000-plus customers in Gravenhurst. Crews were able to restore power to most urban areas of the community by Sunday.
Residents are reminded to exercise extreme caution around damaged poles and downed wires. All fallen wires should be considered live and dangerous. Residents are urged to report the locations of fallen wires to Veridian’s 24-hour Outage Hotline by calling 1-866-579-6819.
