Majority of Gravenhurst still without power
Ajax, ON –Approximately 4,900 Veridian customers in the Town of Gravenhurst are still without power after yesterday’s severe thunderstorm brought high winds and heavy rain, causing extensive damage to the utility’s distribution system.
All available crews from Gravenhurst have been assessing the damage and making repairs as quickly and as safely as possible. Local crews were joined by additional crews last night from Durham Region, and three more crews were dispatched this morning to assist in the restoration efforts.
Restoration times are unknown but Veridian will provide updates as crews continue to assess the damage and make repairs.
Residents are asked to exercise extreme caution around damaged poles and downed wires. All fallen wires should be considered live and dangerous. Residents are urged to report the locations of fallen wires to Veridian’s 24-hour Outage Hotline by calling 1-866-579-6819.
