Veridian updates status of power restoration work in Gravenhurst
Ajax, ON – Veridian emergency crews continue to work to restore electricity service to Gravenhurst residents affected by today’s severe thunderstorm. High winds and heavy rainfall caused power outages and major damage to Veridian’s distribution system.
Service has been restored to 1,200-plus customers during the last several hours. Most of the remaining customers affected by the storm – approximately 4,900 – are expected to have power restored by tomorrow afternoon. Some rural and remote customers will continue to be without power until tomorrow evening.
Veridian has deployed all available crews to the Gravenhurst area, including staff from Durham Region.
Residents are reminded to exercise extreme caution around damaged poles and downed wires. All fallen wires should be considered live and dangerous. Residents are urged to report the locations of fallen wires to Veridian’s 24-hour Outage Hotline by calling 1-866-579-6819.
