New saveONenergy pledge campaign launches
Participants rewarded with 15 AIR MILES® reward miles

Ajax, ON –Veridian customers can earn 15 AIR MILES® reward miles, and discover simple and rewarding ways to save energy by taking the ‘saveONenergy PLEDGE’. The campaign rewards customers for pledging to participate in the new province-wide saveONenergy conservation programs that can help residents manage the energy they use in their home.

“The saveONenergy PLEDGE campaign is designed to encourage our customers to learn more about the province-wide saveONenergy suite of programs,” explains Eryn Wishnowksi, Veridian’s residential conservation program manager. “The campaign also provides a platform for customers to learn about and commit to taking simple but meaningful conservation actions to help them manage their electricity consumption.”

The first phase of the online pledge, running from July 29 to September 25, recommends the following energy-saving actions:

  • Save money throughout the year by using saveONenergy coupons to purchase and install energy-efficient products for your home.
  • Shift your electricity use during high-demand periods.
  • Retire old, energy guzzling refrigerators and freezers.
  • Install an ENERGY STAR® qualified central heating or cooling system.

Customers who pledge to take at least one of the conservation actions will automatically receive 15 AIR MILES® reward miles plus a donation of five reward miles to a participating charity of their choice. Non-collectors will vote for their choice of charity to receive a share of 200,000 reward miles at the conclusion of the campaign. The saveONenergy PLEDGE is available at www.mysaveonenergypledge.ca/veridian.

“We’re very impressed with the way in which Veridian customers have embraced conservation,” said Doug Dickerson, Chair of the utility’s Board of Directors. “By the end of 2010 nearly 4,500 old, energy guzzling refrigerators were decommissioned through the Great Refrigerator Roundup and more than 6,500 customers were participating in the peaksaver® program. The new saveONenergy PLEDGE campaign is yet another way we’re making it easier for our customers to participate in programs that can help them save energy, manage their electricity costs and contribute to a culture of conservation.”

To further help customers in their efforts to manage electricity costs, Veridian’s Conservation Ambassadors are making community appearances to promote the saveONenergy programs. They will be found at events, festivals, libraries and GO Train stations in the communities served by Veridian. A schedule is posted on Veridian’s website at www.veridian.on.ca.
