Veridian golf tournament raises $35,000 for community agencies
Utility’s corporate social responsibility continues to strengthen communities it serves

Ajax, ON – At its annual golf tournament held yesterday at Deer Creek Golf & Banquet Facility in Ajax, Veridian Chair Doug Dickerson, along with President and CEO Michael Angemeer, and members of the utility’s Board of Directors presented cheques to Grandview Children’s Foundation, and the United Way’s of Durham Region, Northumberland and Quinte. The tournament raised more than $35,000 for the four community agencies.

“Veridian employees have a long-standing history of giving generously and without hesitation to many worthwhile causes and community agencies like Grandview Children’s Foundation and the United Way,” explained Dickerson. “I’m very proud of the financial assistance that we continue to provide to the communities we serve. Veridian is making a real difference to the lives of individuals and families who rely on Grandview and the United Way.”

“Our vision is that each child with special needs will have the opportunity to dream, learn, succeed and belong. Corporate support like Veridian’s helps us move closer towards realizing this vision,” said Vicky Earle, Executive Director, Grandview Children’s Foundation.

Corporate social responsibility is taken very seriously at Veridian, with an annual budget for community building, education and hospitals approved by its Board of Directors each year. Since Veridian’s inception in 1999, with staff’s participation, more than $365,000 has been raised for the United Way – a testament to the company’s commitment to helping those in need and building strong communities.

“We are extremely grateful to Veridian, tournament participants and sponsors for their support,” expressed Pam Noonan, Board Chair, United Way of Durham Region. “Veridian’s ongoing commitment to this United Way helps us support more than 50 local charities which have a positive, direct impact on 100,000-plus people living in Durham.”

“Words can’t express how thankful we are to Veridian and tournament participants for their generous contribution,” commented Pam Went, Board President, Northumberland United Way. “Your kindness will support a network of agencies that provide vital programs and services, along with direct programming such as Back Pack for Kids and the Food 4 All Warehouse.”

“The United Way of Quinte is honoured to have been chosen as a donation recipient of Veridian’s golf tournament,” said Judi Gilbert, Executive Director. “This financial support will help us develop – together with community agencies and organizations – innovative and collaborative social services, health and community programs for the Quinte region.”

In 2010, Veridian supported more than 175 community organizations through its golf tournament, annual budget and employee fundraising events.
